Information for Researchers
Although the scales have been successfully used in an adult patient population that spans a wide range of language skills, ethnicities, ages, educational levels and psychiatric impairments, controlled studies are needed to demonstrate objective benefits of their use. Prospective studies can compare the use of these treatment scales to current practices or other methods of communicating physicians’ recommendations.
Suggested topics for study include:
- Efficiency of clinician-patient treatment discussions
- Compliance with treatments
- Patient satisfaction
- Treatment outcomes
