Nathan Treatment Scale

Nathan’s Treatment Scales represent a new paradigm in clinician-patient communication—an easy and efficient method of discussing and documenting treatment discussions.

There are two different but related scales for use in a conversation about treatment options, one for use by clinicians and another for patients:

Nathan’s Treatment Scale – Recommendation (NTS‑R) allows clinicians to tell patients how strongly they recommend a treatment. Patients can ask their clinicians to use the NTS‑R to make treatment discussions easier and more efficient.

Nathan’s Treatment Scale – Acceptance (NTS‑A) empowers patients to tell clinicians how willing they are to try a treatment, which is useful when the decision is difficult or patients feel uncomfortable putting their ambivalence into words.

You can get the scales for free, provided that authorship credit appears on all copies and the text is not altered without permission. We ask for no personal information… Just download, print and use the scales.

The scales are offered freely for use by clinicians, patients and researchers.
